Conceptualising Kids Platform

The Thought – Brief

Focus kids, India based integrated media agency for kids, shared a thought of making a platform to engage kids and at the same time educate and entertain them. This germ was the only brief in the form of a thought we received. It was a challenge in itself. Focus wanted to find someone to articulate their vision – someone with a completely fresh mind-set, someone who could imbibe real life to his vision, ensuring that upon creation, it was truly approachable by the new generation, Focus made an alliance with RBBi.

Research

Months of research, ideation, and understanding

the new generations’ online and offline

behaviours started bring the concept of Worldoo

to life.

The research also involved parents, kids and

various child psychologists, along with several

kids’ brands and behavioural organisations to

better understand what kids really want today

and how all of their requirements can be brought

together in one house, in one platform.

Strategy, Planning & UX

Once the idea was conceptualised, the biggest challenge

the team faced was to give it a viable form.Days went

by brainstorming on what the platform would consist of. Should

it be a game, an app, a social network, a virtual world, or

simply a kids’ portal. In parallel, the team was also

conducting research to validate the same.

So, when the research results came through, it was blaringly

obvious that the choice couldn’t be any one of the above

– but ALL OF THE ABOVE – solidifying the fact that the new

generation don’t settle for anything less.

From sketches to scribbles on paper to more structured

wireframes over a span of 2 months, with varied tools, from

just pencils to information architecture planning software,

Worldoo was finally starting to come alive. RBBi meticulously

crafted user journeys and worked on the complete design

of Worldoo with intensive usability research – ensuring a

rich and a seamless user experience for kids.

Wireframes & Sketches

Defining the userflow, navigation and
the form of the world.

RBBi designed it with a mindset of kid-friendly

visual grammar across the platform. Linear

web navigation principles were followed for

simplicity and memorability. As kids get deeper

into sections to consume content, a clear &

linear path can guide them back to where they

started from, step by step.

RBBi meticulously designed the platform to

position it as “seriously” childish – serious

enough for kids to have a feeling of being

treated as mature Internet citizens.

Visual Design and Illustration Style

Thus, RBBi embarked on the journey to give Worldoo a face. From sketches to scribbles on paper to more structured wireframes over a span of 2 months, with varied tools, from just pencils to information architecture planning software, Worldoo was finally starting to come alive. RBBi meticulously crafted user journeys and worked on the complete design of Worldoo with intensive usability research – ensuring a rich and a seamless user experience for kids

LANDMARKS

The design of the interface evolved to be an organic space, fluid in terms of scalability and shape, where the kids first land

and then have several landmarks to visit during their stay by simply clicking on them. The individual landmarks have

beautifully designed interiors, which also work as secondary menus for the content within. The landmark interfaces are

designed to have a familiar, “windowed” look & feel which open in a linear fashion for easy navigation

Take a Tour

The final platform was shaped to be bright & colourful, yet not childish.

The platform is imbibed with fun, while not being monotonous. It’s vivid, with a language of its own. It’s simple & still exciting. It’s not a game & yet kids can play on it. It’s not a virtual world in the real sense, but kids can live in it for hours. It’s not your everyday social network, but kids can still make friends & interact with them.

Technology

Worldoo is built on .NET with custom build Content Management System. RBBi conducted a 3 way pitch for the client to

select the technology partner. It’s built for scalability and security. A unique API will allow brands and other agencies to plug-

in their content in Worldoo’s Community Centre to host events, quizes and contests for kids
